For over 50 years, the Monte-Carlo Television Festival has been bringing TV fans and television industry professionals to Monaco to honor and recognize television programs on a world-wide scale. The multi-day Festival, usually taking place in early June, can best be described as a television counterpart to the Cannes Film Festival, intended to showcase the world’s best television programming, and used by US and international studios as a launchpad for new series.
The Festival is firmly established as the essential event for the whole television industry and its closing night culminates with the Golden Nymph Award Ceremony, complete with a red carpet – evening gowns and tuxedos – as international TV stars pose for the public to take memorable souvenir photos.

Golden Nymph Award Statuette
For the public, there is a full range of VIP events, including preview screenings, series launches, autograph sessions, chances to meet international stars, prestigious soirées etc, For the industry, the Monte-Carlo Television Festival offers a unique competition that pits TV programmes from all over the world against each other to win a Golden Nymph award.
Created back in 1961 by the visionary Prince Rainier III to “encourage a new art form, in the service of peace and understanding between men”. Today, under the auspices of Prince Albert, the Monte-Carlo Television Festival continues to recognize television as an exceptional means of bringing cultures together and enhancing their respective knowledge.
Throughout the Festival, international juries composed of distinguished industry professionals and talent participate in screenings of all programming in Competition. Each year, more than 30 countries are represented in the competition, with more than 60 programs selected for nomination.
The Competition is open to all international networks, distributors and production companies.
The Official Competition is separated into the categories of :
- TV Series (Drama and Comedy)
- Mini Series
- Television Films
- News (Documentaries, TV News Items, 24 Hour News Programs)
The International TV Audience Awards reward shows that have achieved the highest viewing figures worldwide.
The competition is also the host of Special Prizes awarded in partnership with major global organizations such as the International Committee of the Red Cross, the Monaco Red Cross, AMADE Mondiale, SIGNIS and the Special Prize Rainier III – presented by H.S.H. Prince Albert II of Monaco.

In 2014 the Prix Spécial du Prince Rainier III went to “Armes Chimiques Sous la Mer” / “Deadly Depths” revealing the danger of chemical weapons that have been disposed at sea – and exposes the reality of munitions on our shorefronts.
